Round 1
First XI
The ones were at home v Richmond City. Captain Burton won the toss , decided to bat and before you know it 3/30 and trouble. A great partnership between Craig Don Paul and young Tommy Raymond (39) was had and we seemed to get on top. Handy contributions from Jez Dev (plump LBW for16) , Tom Riley (12) complimented CDP’s innings long 54. From 3/30 a totally of 8/159 was ok.
With the ball we struggled early as the Rich City openers batted well. They were well on top after some loose bowling before our man for a crisis Wombat came on and pegged them back with a great 8 over spell of 2/22. From their Burto’s lads chipped away and wickets fell regularly, however with an over to go a hoisted 6 onto the freeway was enough to give City the points. Not a disaster but areas to tidy up.
Not a disaster but areas to tidy up.
Second XI
The Twos were out at the iconic Brunswick street oval and batted first. In a disappointing display only Brendan Wales (42) and Kurt Tellis (22*) offered any resistance in a all out for 110 effort. Skipper Timmy Driscoll took the new ball and some early wickets had Edinburgh in some trouble. From 5-50 the twos could smell an epic victory however it was not to be as a solid 6th wicket effort saw the oppo home with 10 overs to spare.
With a few returning and a little more application with the bat its expected the twos will improve over the coming weeks.
Third XI
The reigning G turf premiership side took off to Wilson Reserve under skipper Simon Dresser. Playing Bulleen the lads bowled brilliantly to restrict them to 106. Wickets were shared between Winston Fernandez (2), Milly Ware (2) , young leggie Liam Doherty (2), promising all rounder Benny Noonan (2) and Andrew Trifilo (1).
Opening the chase was Ruegan Braganza and Brayden David. And those two were all that were needed as they chased down the target in 21 overs. Ruegs ending with a well made 72* and Braydo a confidence boosting 32*. Skipper Dress was pleased to chalk up win #1.
Fourth XI
After a much required change in leadership – club superstar James “GOOSE “ Mathers took over the leadership from Quinny. Winning the toss and electing to bat, Goose rightfully choose to lead from the front. A solid start got the 4s off to a good base with handy contributions from junior Rohit Verma (20), experienced campaigner Proccy (48) and a well compiled 63 from opening game specialist Matt Quinn who knocked up 63.
Defending 181 on the soccer oval is a tough task but the bowling attack led by Jono Hendricks, Zac Nuroo, Jason Rao + Scott Antidormi was fantastic under pressure. Quinny came on an collected a cheap 3 at the end to finish off what was a MOM performance.
Great start from the Goose army.
Fifth XI
Also under new leadership – club junior guru Dave Di Domenico, faced Glen Waverley on Lum RD. Bowling first the young team tried hard and restricted the GWCC to 192 from their 35 overs. Young Joe Paulus picked up 3 whilst new player Fitzy dusted off his creams and collected 2 wickets. Unfortunately the batting never really got going and we finished 5/117 from our allotted overs. Pleasingly Joey Paulus finished with a great 47, the skipper 28 and young Adam Di Domenico made 17.
We dust ourselves off and go again.
